Jessenia Acuna

Biography

Jessenia Acuna is a Licensed Master Social Worker with over five years of experience working with young adults, athletes, and families to overcome trauma, anxiety, and other mental disorders. She has served in a wide range of academic environments including universities, as health promotion specialist and mindfulness educator, in nonprofits, and as an English teacher in underserved rural Thailand. 

As a trauma-informed therapist, Jessenia incorporates her three main areas of experience— education, wellness, and mental health, into a holistic treatment modality. Theories and techniques include Narrative therapy, CBT, mindfulness, DBT, Humanistic, Relational, Somatic Experiencing, and Jungian/archetypal theory, and short-term solution-focused strategies. She currently accepts clients aged 21+.

By applying a collaborative approach, Jessenia helps patients better understand themselves by giving them the necessary skills to thrive. Jessenia provides patients with an open and non-judgmental space to build connections and explore different areas of health and well-being. 

Specialty areas include life transitions and post-college years, high-performing adults struggling with perfectionism and anxiety, women/men’s issues, and trauma survivors. Jessenia’s background in wellness education and yoga informs her counseling work, especially as young adults navigate multiple career, social, and emotional challenges. 

Jessenia also supports adult life adjustments such as parenting, relationship issues and divorce, career changes, lifestyle and goal setting, aging, illness, grief and loss. Past clients include those with issues such as ADHD, PTSD, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bullying/social exclusion, and mild to severe adverse childhood experiences. She has worked with a wide variety of cultural and religious backgrounds, as well as various generational perspectives.
